Description Imagine living hundreds of miles from your nearest neighbor, having groceries and mail delivered by airplane a few times each year, and battling long, harsh winters with temperatures that plummet to -51 C. Such are the living conditions chosen by the hearty few who inhabit America's last frontier: the Alaskan bush - a spectacular land of rivers and mountains so remote that many remain unnamed. Through the cameras of National Geographic, you'll enter the lives of four families who have turned their backs on civilization to fulfill their dreams of living off the land. Join these modern-day pioneers as they face the daily challenges of survival - hunting for food, staying warm, and fending off grizzlies. You'll experience America's pioneering spirit through these remarkable people who are BRAVING ALASKA!

TEN STARS December 12, 1998 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
this video is one of the best documentary type videos that i have ever seen. The video is about 4 families that live in the Alaska bush. each family is very isolated and they live off the land. this video documents the day to day lives of these people and gets into their heads a bit as to how and why they made the decisions to live as they do. THIS VIDEO WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO LEAVE THE REST OF THIS SCREWED UP WORLD BEHIND AND MOVE TO THE WOODS!!
Braving Alaska April 15, 2004 Ron Levergood (Silver Spring, Md United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Braving Alaska is a must for anyone who loves the great out doors; my wife and I loved this movie so much that we watched it over a dozen times if not more. My wife and I fish, Hunt, Camp, Explore and more and this movie was great to watch. It shows how people can survive in the wilderness and live off the land and not abuse it. If you are an out doors person or just love the great out doors I highly recommend this great adventure video. I wish they would make a second part to this video. God Bless America.
Alaska Bush life April 8, 2001 Rodney D. Bailey (Saraland, AL USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I watched this video from a rental one evening and liked it so much that I bought a copy for myself when it became available. I enjoy everything about Alaska and this film depicted the life of 4 families living that life. I am sure there are more bush families out there in Alaska, but this film helped share that life. There is a pure and simple life plan with these families that alot of us would like to be in their place and not have to worry about excessive crime and modern problems. I highly recommend this film to anyone that wants to live this type of lifestyle or just wants information about the Alaskan backcountry.
Lifestyle in the Alaska Bush March 24, 2002 Sara M (Alaska, living in Iowa (silly me)) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This video shows real-life-living-in-the-bush experiences. I liked this video a lot because I'm fascinated w/northern Alaska & the lifestyle there. This video is very good at showing this.
Awesome May 24, 2006 Glenn (OH United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I watched it several times in the few days since it arrived. This video gives a real picture of what life in the Alaskan bush can be like. Although there's not an abundance of formal teaching, it's very informative seeing how these bush families live, eat, hunt, get supplies, and get along.
