KENAI RIVER, ALASKA

Kenai River, Alaska - Chinook (king) Salmon

Early Run

Kenai River King Salmon (Chinook) are considered to be the largest of that species.  These counts are gathered 8.6 miles up from the mouth of the Kenai River.  The fishery extend to Skilak Lake about 50 miles upstream from the mouth.

Late Run

Plan your trip accordingly, so you are there when the fish are.  As you can see this varies from year to year based on many factors, water temperature, water depth, and other circumstances.  Notice there are a lot of fish in the river during the whole phase, but just a lot higher during certain times.
